The Light of Life Initiative exists to illuminate the path out of poverty and crisis by providing comprehensive support, including meeting basic needs, fostering educational attainment, promoting economic self-reliance, expanding health access, championing rights and justice, and delivering swift emergency aid to vulnerable populations.
To see resilient communities worldwide where every individual, regardless of circumstance, has access to their fundamental needs, the opportunity for dignified empowerment, and the resources to build a just and prosperous future.
A journey of compassion, resilience, and community empowerment.
The Light of Life Initiative began its impactful work well before its official establishment. Starting in 2023, it functioned as a small, focused project dedicated to supplying educational materials for children in remote villages. This initial effort laid the groundwork for the official establishment of the organization.
The Light of Life Initiative is a successfully established non-governmental organization (NGO) officially licensed in Ethiopia. It received its registration from the Authority of Civil Service Organization as a Non-Profit Organization on August 15, 2025 GC, under the registration number 7684.
Having secured its license and grown significantly since those early days, the Initiative has expanded its reach and scope. Today, the Light of Life Initiative operates as a multi-sector organization, serving thousands of people across various regions of Ethiopia with a comprehensive range of programs.
Founding and Leadership
The Initiative was co-founded by an international and local team dedicated to its mission. The founders includes:
The organizational structure is governed by Five Board members and an executive leadership team. This leadership structure comprises a President, Vice Presidents, a Program Director, an Internal Audit function, and dedicated Finance manager.
This structure suggests a commitment to both strategic oversight (Board) and robust operational management, financial accountability (Internal Audit and finance manager), and program execution (Program Director).
These principles guide everything we do and shape how we work with communities.
We commit to building the capacity of individuals and communities to endure, recover, and adapt to challenges, focusing on long-term sustainability and self-reliance.
We believe that essential resources—food, water, health care, education, and justice—must be available and reachable to all, especially the most marginalized, including persons with disabilities and those in remote areas.
We operate with transparency, honesty, and accountability in all our actions, ensuring resources are used effectively and ethically to serve our beneficiaries.
We actively work to protect the rights of women and children, combat discrimination, and support the strengthening of legal and correctional systems to ensure fairness and equity for everyone.
We believe in investing in the potential of individuals, particularly youth, through education, vocational training, and economic opportunities to help them become active agents of change in their own lives and communities.
We treat every person with unwavering respect and work to ensure all individuals—including inmates and those affected by disaster—are afforded their fundamental human rights and a life of dignity.
Together, we can continue to spread light and transform lives in communities that need it most.
